Founded in September 2000, the Centre MATERIA celebrated in 2010 ten years of service to the recognition of contemporary crafts. Since its foundation, MATERIA presented the work of 500 artists in all disciplines, as part of registering nearly 70 exhibitions from hundreds of dissemination events in expressive crafts, from here and elsewhere. In addition, approximately 60 000 visitors attended the show room since its opening.
Centre MATERIA has also published exhibition catalogues, carried out various discussion meetings, seminars, round tables and conferences, and many other activities held in parallel with each exhibition. With its dynamism, the Centre MATERIA contributes to the enhancement of crafts as artistic practice in its own right and their dissemination in a professional context. On the tenth anniversary, we were presenting exhibitions reflecting the research and the distinctiveness of the creative process. In addition, in order to increase opportunities of Crafts’ dissemination, the Centre has recently innovated with the realization of the virtual shop MATERIA e-boutique, which was established on March 15. This course is accompanied by the development of the website which receives over 15,000 visitors a year.
However, we need your support for MATERIA, the only craft-artists center in Canada today, to continue its work of promotion of crafts. We ask for your financial support to help us continue our commitment to meet the needs and expectations of today's artists for the dissemination and promotion of crafts in Quebec and elsewhere. With your donation, you partner with the importance of our work, you contribute to the cultural vitality of Quebec and you support our mission with the granting cultural institutions.
For more than ten years, the Centre MATERIA contributed in changing attitudes towards the Crafts, these being no longer seen as the simple practice of handicraft. However, much work remains to be done. In supporting MATERIA, you participate in changing perceptions so important and crucial for artists who dedicate their lives to their practice.
A charity receipt, which you can include in your tax return, will be issued in the amount of your donation. Please also note that the Centre MATERIA is registered with CanadaHelps (www. CanaDon.org).
Thanking you in advance for your generosity.
