Located in the heart of a dynamic are of Quebec City, the “nouvo” Saint-Roch neighbourhood, where cultural, commercial and business activities meet, MATERIA occupies the ground floor of the Maison des Métiers d’art de Québec building, a training and professional development centre in the field of handcrafted art objects. The exhibition gallery, on Charest Blvd. in one of the most heavily frequented neighbourhoods in the city, features two huge display windows to attract the attention of passers-by. The community served by MATERIA includes both artists in the field in Quebec (professionals and younger artists alike) and members of the public who follow their work and the visual arts in general. This includes students who frequent the following nearby institutions: the MMAQ, the Centre de formation et de consultation en métiers d’art, the visual arts department of Université Laval, ENAP, TELUQ, INRS, UBISOFT, Université du Québec, La Maison Jaune, La Rotonde, La Chambre Blanche, Le Lieu, the Bibliothèque Gabrielle Roy and MEDUSE.
